Aron B. Wieder
District 13 Legislator
Aron Wieder has been a resident of Rockland County for over 20 years. He lives in Spring Valley with his wife, a lifelong Rockland resident, and their four children. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Legislator Wieder attended the Machzikei Hadas yeshiva. After graduating there, he attended rabbinical college in Israel.
In 2008, Aron Wieder was elected to the East Ramapo School Board. Over the course of his three-year term, he became the vice president of the board, and then took over as president of the board toward the end of his term. As a school board member, he introduced and passed a proposal to establish a full day kindergarten program, and raised private funds to support the renowned East Ramapo Marching Band.
During his time on the school board, the graduation rate improved, and the New York State School Board Association gave Mr. Wieder the Board Excellence Award, the highest recognition of any school board member in Rockland County. He was also awarded with a Certificate of Excellence by the Rockland County School Board Association, distinctions that highlighted the work he did on behalf of the students, faculty, and taxpayers of East Ramapo.
For two years, Aron Wieder served as the Confidential Assistant to the Mayor of Spring Valley. In the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, he made national headlines for coordinating hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions from local businesses for medical supplies, and organized a mission of nurses to provide medical care for the people of Haiti. For his efforts, he was honored by the French-Speaking Baptist Church and others.
In 2011, Aron Wieder was elected to the Rockland County Legislature, representing Spring Valley. As a legislator, he fought for fiscal responsibility to resolve Rockland’s deficit, and relief for unfunded state mandates to reduce property taxes for Rockland County residents. He also supported legislation that improved the environment and advocated for social justice.
Legislator Wieder also shepherded the Stonehouse Road flood mitigation project through the legislature, obtaining state and federal approvals to resolve the decades-long flooding crisis affecting residents of his legislative district in Spring Valley. That initiative is the largest infrastructure project in recent history in the Village of Spring Valley. Legislator Wieder is an advocate for local infrastructure projects such as the drainage and road improvement on Robert Pitt Drive.
Legislator Wieder serves as Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee. He also serves on the Government Operations, Multi-Services and Planning & Public Work Committees, and on the Special Committee on Minority & Women's Business Enterprise.
Legislator Wieder is also a member of the NAACP as well as the Rockland County Democratic Committee.
Legislative Committee Assignments:
- Chair: Budget & Finance Committee
- Vice Chair: Planning & Public Works
- Committee Member: Multi-Services; Public Safety.
- Member: Rockland Green (Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority)
