Legislators Attend County’s Sept. 11 Memorial Ceremony
Vice Chair Paul Offers Remarks on 24th Anniversary
Family members, friends, neighbors, public officials, first responders and others gathered today to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Among those attending were Rockland County Legislators Beth Davidson, Will Kennelly and Jesse Malowitz. Rockland County Legislature Vice Chair Dr. Aney Paul offered the following remarks.
"As we have done for more than two decades, we come together once again to honor and remember those we lost on September 11, 2001, and those who gave their lives in the War on Terror that followed.
"To the families who lost loved ones: our hearts are with you. Your grief is a burden no one should carry alone, and we honor the lives you hold in your hearts.
To those who lived through that day, even 24 years later, our solemn responsibility remains:
"We will never forget.
"We will never forget the brave firefighters, police officers, and the everyday men and women who simply went to work or boarded a plane that morning, never knowing it would be their last.
"And we will teach our children — and now our grandchildren — about that day.
About the pain we felt, the unity we found, and the strength we summoned to rebuild. From the largest cities to the smallest towns — including our own Rockland County — we stood together.
"To the families, friends, and colleagues who lost someone they loved: please know that your pain is not forgotten. Your loved ones are not forgotten. You remain in our hearts — every day, and especially today.
"So today we pause. We remember. We reflect. And we recommit to being better, to caring more deeply and to never forgetting.
"May God bless the lives we lost, the heroes who rose in the aftermath, and all who have carried on.”
