Legislator Paul: Workshop Helps Youth Strengthen Communication Skills

Annual Summer Leadership Program Imparts New Skills To Local Youth

Local youth recently explored the value of effective communication during a Youth Leadership Workshop sponsored by Rockland County Legislature Vice Chair Dr. Aney Paul.

“This was a great opportunity for our young people to understand why strong communication skills matter - and to learn how they can strengthen their own,” Legislator Paul said. “Thank you to all the participants and program leaders who made it possible.”

The workshop, “Stand Up, Speak Out, Lead On: Public Speaking for Leadership,” was led by Kristin Ruggiero, 4-H Resource Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland. Through interactive activities, participants built their public speaking skills and created mini presentations to practice what they learned.

The event also featured presentations from Kim Burgos and Olivia Heller of the Rockland County Youth Bureau, who highlighted various programs specifically available to youth.

Additional speakers included Jenelle Campbell of Upper Room House of Worship in Spring Valley and Dayna Thomas, Board Member of the Clarkstown Leo Club, who both shared insights from their personal leadership journeys.

Also joining the event was Community Activist and Rockland County Sheriff's Office Chaplain Captain Teresa Darden, who is Founder and Pastor of the Upper Room House of Worship.
