Statement From Rockland County Legislature Vice Chairwoman Dr. Aney Paul On The Passing Of Former Congresswoman Nita Lowey

“Today we mourn the passing of a dear friend to Rockland County, Congresswoman Nita Lowey. On behalf of myself and the entire Rockland County Legislature, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends, as well as the former constituents on whose behalf she so tirelessly worked.

“Congresswoman Lowey never took her position for granted. Instead, she regularly reached out to elected officials to see what she could do to assist them and their communities. She made it a priority to visit Rockland frequently, to hold meetings, to meet with constituents and to attend local events. She served as a role model to so many, both women and men.

“As a member of Congress, she had the desire and ability to work across the political aisle to get things done - not only for her Congressional District, but for the nation.

“Her issues were our issues - and vice-versa - ensuring women’s health care, preventing youth from using tobacco, advocating for food programs and child care, working to protect the Hudson River, demanding safe energy, and so much more.

“Our community and our country were well-served by Congresswoman Nita Lowey. We were blessed to be represented by someone so caring about so many others.”

The Senate also has an Appropriations Committee.
