Rockland County Legislature Statement On Racist Texts To Students

The Rockland County Legislature stands firmly and resolutely with our Black and Brown communities in the wake of racist and threatening text messages from unknown senders. Some of the recipients of these texts are as young as elementary-school age. We staunchly rebuke any attempts to demean and intimidate Rockland County residents, particularly children.

The local branch of the NAACP is in communication with law enforcement and encourages anyone receiving these or other suspicious messages to contact them at 845-572-1432. The Office of New York State Attorney General Letitia James also encourages anyone who has received a message like this to report it to the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Bureau by calling 800-771-7755, emailing civil.rights@ag.ny.gov, or filing a complaint online at ag.ny.gov/file-complaint/civil-rights
