Legislator Paul & Volunteers Participate In Milestone 30th Roadside Cleanup

Bags And Bags Of Trash Collected And Removed In Nanuet

Nearly two dozen volunteers joined Rockland County Legislature Vice Chairwoman Dr. Aney Paul to participate in her milestone 30th roadside cleanup Saturday – and she appreciated the help.

“We collected bags and bags of trash – plastic bottles and soda and beer cans, cardboard boxes, tires and lots of paper and plastic litter,” Legislator Paul said. “I am very thankful to everyone who came out to make our community cleaner and nicer looking.”

The effort was part of the 2024 Great American Cleanup and was Legislator Paul’s 30th such cleanup since she launched the effort a decade ago. It was again held in conjunction with Keep Rockland Beautiful.

In 2014, Legislator Paul adopted the two-mile stretch of County Route 35A that runs between New Clarkstown Road in Nanuet and Route 59 in Spring Valley. She has led a cleanup of the roadway twice a year – in spring and in fall – almost every year since.

In addition to their aesthetic value, roadside cleanups help prevent litter and other trash from being blown or washed into waterways that are used by wildlife, provide habitat for flora and aquatic life, and serve as drinking water sources for people.
