Rockland County Legislature Recognizes Sheriffs’ Week & Contributions Of Rockland Sheriff’s Officers & Staff
Police, Civil, Corrections and Communications Divisions Acknowledged
In honor of New York State Sheriffs’ Week, the Rockland County Legislature has recognized the many contributions of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, including the Police, Civil, Corrections and Communications Divisions.
Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr. and Public Safety Committee Chair Legislator Paul Cleary presented a special Proclamation to County Sheriff Louis Falco III that designates Sept. 15 through Sept. 21 as Sheriffs’ Week in Rockland County.
This is a time to recognize the significant contributions made by Sheriffs’ Offices in county government and in the statewide criminal justice system.
The duties of the Sheriff’s Office go far beyond the traditional role of "Keeper of the Peace," and extend into countless facets of public service, including maintaining the county jail, providing security in our courts, dispatching emergency services, and serving and executing civil process as directed by our courts.
Among its many duties, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office conducts arson and crime scene investigations; responds to bomb threats; performs training drills at local schools in case their response is ever needed; operates a Hudson River safety patrol, mounted unit and K-9 unit; sets up drunk driving checkpoints to keep roadways safe; operates the county 9-1-1 system; and handles security for all county-owned facilities.
Also participating in the proclamation presentation were (left to right in 2nd photo) Rockland County Legislators Aron Wieder, Ray Sheridan, Joel Friedman, Will Kennelly, Aney Paul, Jay Hood Jr., Louis Falco, Doug Jobson, Dana G. Stilley, Toney Earl, Paul Cleary, Lon Hofstein, Beth Davidson, Jesse Malowitz, and Tom Diviny. Also present were County Legislators Alden H. Wolfe and Itamar Yeger.
