Rockland County Legislature Vice Chair Dr. Aney Paul Offers Remarks On 23rd Anniversary Of Sept. 11 Attacks

‘We Have Not Forgotten - And We Will Not Forget - All Those Who Were Taken From Us – And From So Many Of You Personally’

Rockland County Legislature Vice Chair Dr. Aney Paul offered the following remarks during Rockland County’s Memorial Service at the Sept. 11 Memorial at Haverstraw Bay County Park. County Legislators Paul Cleary, Beth Davidson, Doug Jobson, Will Kennelly, Jesse Malowitz and Dana G. Stilley also attended.

“Today, as we gather here in Rockland County, we join with thousands of other Americans across this nation – each in their own hometown – to collectively remember those lost and to renew our commitment to one another and to the greatest causes on the planet: Liberty and Democracy.

“We have not forgotten - and we will not forget - all those who were taken from us – and from so many of you personally - 23 years ago today.

“Sadly, the impacts from the attacks continue, breaking even more hearts. More people have now died due to the exposure to the toxins at Ground Zero than were killed on the day of the attack.

“This includes survivors; everyday people who lived, worked or went to school in the area; the crews who helped clean up the site; and of course, the many First Responders who worked so diligently in the solemn search for remains.

“We remember them, too.

“We remain grateful to the men and women of the Armed Forces who stepped forward in the War on Terrorism, many lost in the defense of our freedom and protection of the homeland.

“Our great strength as a people has always been our ability to get back up after we’ve been knocked down. No matter how impossible that may seem. That’s exactly what we did after Sept. 11.

“Our compassion, hope and resiliency as a community, a county and a country lead us forward and inspire us to seek better days and brighter futures.

“And we will never allow terrorists or anyone else to destroy our pursuit of Liberty and Democracy. May God Bless America Always.”
