Legislator Paul: Communication & Leadership Program Open To All Rockland Youth Ages 12 To 18

Free Workshop Set For July 24

Cornell Cooperative Extension Educator To Lead Program

Rockland youth can obtain valuable information to assist them in becoming better communicators and leaders during a free program set for July 24.

Rockland County Legislature Vice Chair Aney Paul sponsors the Youth Leadership Workshop from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in the Legislature’s Chambers, 11 New Hempstead Road in New City.

“Today’s youth face incredible challenges that can sometimes seem overwhelming, in part because they may not have the skill sets needed to address them,” Legislator Paul said. “But through the development of leadership skills, they can learn how to approach problems and develop solutions. It’s important that we help our youth to develop those skills as they face a world contending with climate change, job losses due to automation, housing shortages, and many other issues.”

The theme of the workshop is “Communication & Leadership: Developing Interpersonal Skills for Success.” Participants will learn how different situations require different communication and leadership techniques.

The program will be conducted by Kristin Ruggiero, a 4-H Resources Educator at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland. She will lead the participants in various exercises designed to build different communication and leadership skills and awareness. Bryce Breedyk, Assistant Director of the Rockland County Youth Bureau, will provide information about programs available to youth in Rockland.

Youth leaders will also address the participants and share their stories of challenges and success.

The free program is open to all Rockland youth ages 12 to 18. Water and healthy snacks will be provided. Certificates of participation will also be provided.
