Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson Honors Bob Stien with Harriet D. Cornell Environmental Champion Award
Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson presented Bob Stien with the Harriet D. Cornell Environmental Champion Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to conservation, environmental education, and community engagement. Legislator Davidson is Chair of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee.
Bob has spent years supporting preservation efforts as a member of the Friends of Rockland Lake and Hook Mountain. He helped lead efforts to raise $3 million to protect 30 acres at the base of Hook Mountain and played a key role in preserving 8 acres that the Marydell Sisters chose to donate and is now the Marydell Nature Preserve.
Equally notable is Bob’s deep commitment to people - especially children and families. He founded the “Learning in the Parks” program, offering hands-on experiences that inspire young people to understand and care for the natural world. Through educational programs, guided hikes, and family-focused initiatives, he has helped foster meaningful connections between residents and nature. He is also a founder of the New York Fathering Conference, where he has promoted outdoor engagement as a way to strengthen fathers, families, and communities.
“Bob Stien’s work reflects not only a passion for protecting our environment, but also a genuine care for people and future generations,” Legislator Davidson said. “He continues to make lasting contributions to environmental stewardship and the well-being of our community.”
Bob was also congratulated by Legislator Will Kennelly, in whose district he and his wife, Enid Weishaus, reside.
